The Official UK Top 40 chart is compiled by the Official Charts Company, based on official sales of sales of downloads, vinyl, audio streams and video streams. The Top is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and MTV, the full Top 100 is published exclusively on Official Charts! The company is a joint venture operation owned by two key music industry bodies: the BPI and the Entertainment Retailers Association representing entertainment retailers and digital services from HMV and indie stores through to Amazon, Spotify and Netflix. The role of the company is to commission, market, distribute and manage the UKs official music and video charts with its chart compilation contractor Kantar managing the hugely powerful databases which enable the UK to claim the fastest and most sophisticated charts in the world.
